J & G MEAKIN ROSA Tureen

This entry is requested by Yatt for Esay Tureen Contest..even mama not win...but it's okay..just for fun and look how far mama can write about tureen.....

I’m so happy when my first collection of tureen is from J&G Meakin Rosa. Inspired from my school friend and from her, my interest on porcelain are developing time by time. Then, since I was in UK at this moment, my effort through ebay.co.uk was fruitful when I win tureen last month. Even though the tureen without lids, I’m still happy since the tureen is very beautiful and lovely within the motif is pink colour makes me love with it. It’s name is J&G Meakin Rosa Tureen.
Let me share some of history of J&G Meakin. J&G comes from James Snr,who was born in 1807 died 1852 started potting some years earlier in Longton before moving to Cannon St Hanley in 1850. In 1851 he was due to ill health succeeded by his two sons James and George who formed what was to be a long and successful partnership we now know as J & G Meakin Pty Ltd. The brothers stayed only one year at Cannon St before moving the factory to Market St where they stayed for 7 prosperous years, on its completion in 1859 they moved to the now famous Eagle Pottery.

Prior to 1945 they made predominantly inexpensive export wares, particularly for the American market, both North and South. By the 1950s about 80% of production was for export markets which by this time also included Australia, New Zealand, the Far East and Scandinavia.
For Rosa wares were produced between 1946 and 1970 and now it becomes as antique products. Post war expansion in the home market for domestic tableware resulted in the production of a wide range of traditional and fashionable shapes and patterns. 17 shapes and over 100 patterns have been identified for the period 1945-1975.
